Up to half of all women experience weakness in the abdominal muscles and pelvic floor muscles following pregnancy.
Up to one third of women have a diastasis (tummy gap) at 8 weeks postnatal
If left untreated, issues with the pelvic floor and abdominal muscles can lead to back and pelvic pain, reduced physical ability and pelvic health issues such as bladder, bowel and sexual dysfunction. At present there is no routine specialist postnatal assessment offered to women on the NHS following delivery.
The Mummy MOT ® is a comprehensive specialist postnatal assessment suitable for all women following vaginal, assisted and caesarean section births from 6 weeks postpartum. Much of Women's Health Physiotherapy is preventative, meaning that you do not need to be currently experiencing symptoms to be suitable for an assessment. Issues such as pelvic floor and abdominal weakness often cause issues later on in life, during the perimenopause, if left undiagnosed and untreated.
Pregnancy and the postpartum period is a time of great change in a woman's life. We believe that every woman deserves a specialist postnatal assessment consisting of comprehensive, compassionate and informed physiotherapy, with evidence-based rehabilitation to optimise health outcomes.
What to expect from a mummy MOT ® :
We are also able to offer specific advice and treatment on return to sport and exercise, concerns over pelvic organ prolapse and musculoskeletal aches and pains.
Services are offered in Chelmsford, Brentwood, Maldon and surrounding areas.
